A CASE STUDY OF CENTER FOR RESEARCH AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENT (CRED) FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC NASARAWA

CHAPTER ONE

1.0     INTRODUCTION

This chapter outlines background of the study, statement of the problems, objective of the study, research question, and significance of the study. It also encapsulates limitation of the study, scope of the study, than brief history of the case study and definitions of terms used.

1.1     BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

In a world where the rate of unemployment of graduate has supersite that of the working graduate, it is no wonder that innovation and Entrepreneurship are often seen as inspirable bed flows. The governments around the world are starting to realize that in order to sustain progress and improve a country’s economy, the people have to be encouraged and trained to think out of the box and be constantly developing innovative product and services. The once feasible ways of doing business are no longer guarantees for future graduate success.

In response to this inevitable change, some governments are rethinking the way the young are educated by infusing creating thinking and innovation in their nation’s educational curriculum. In the same vein, they are putting much emphasis on the need to train future entrepreneur through infusing entrepreneurship components within the educational system, especially at the tertiary level. Some countries have taken this initiative to a higher level by introducing entrepreneurship education at elementary schools and encouraging them to be future. Entrepreneurship is a crucial feature of graduate development. It is one of the basic elements necessary for sustained wealth creation and development of productive forces. Closely associated with this process is the behavior of entrepreneurs. It is the actions of entrepreneurs in mobilizing credit to finance the procurement of existing factors of production in order to combine them in new ways that is at the core of the development process. At the core of the process is the ability to combine existing factors of production in new ways. This places the entrepreneurs at centre of the educating process.

In developing countries the challenges of development places a special responsibility on the entrepreneur who must seek out new opportunities, find new ways of doing things that would take die cognizance of the environment. The entrepreneur must understand the nature of the society, various peculiar conditions and the general way of life of the people to be able to fashion out a production and financing strategy that would best ensure envelopment of the graduate.

1.2     STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEMS

          This research study attempt to look at the following:

1. Delay in the approval of funds for policy implementation
2. Poor provision of facilities to conduct practical.
3. Lack of established objective
4. Inefficient programmed development

1.3     OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDUY

The objective of this study is to:

1. To Identify the major purpose of entrepreneurship education as well as the key internal and external influence on entrepreneur
2. To Ascertain the entrepreneurship education policy in operation
3. To Find out whether entrepreneur education  schemes have positive effect on the preference of  student and productivity
4. To Access the impact of entrepreneurship education a concept on institutional profitability.

1.4     STATEMENT OF HYPOTHESIS

Hi: Entrepreneurship education has an impact on unemployment rate of graduate.

Ho: Entrepreneurship education does not have impact on unemployment rate of graduate.

1. How did the Entrepreneurship education practice develop the graduate?
2. What is the major purpose of entrepreneurship education?
3. What are the entrepreneurship education polices and practical?
4. Does entrepreneur education have an effect on unemployed graduate performance and productivity?
5. Does practical work enhance productivity?
6. Does poor maintenance  and obsolesces of machine lead  to low standard of practical
7. Is there any relationship that exist between entrepreneurship  and education
8. What is the benefit of being an entrepreneur?
9. What are the challenges facing entrepreneur?
10. Is there any need for a person to become a successful entrepreneur after undergoing training?

1.6     SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The significance of the study is to confirm the relevance of entrepreneurship education in the social and economic well being of the graduate. The programmed has helped greatly towards developing and progressing the activities of unemployed graduate.

The study is significant for the immediate to examine the principle and practice of the case study, and to ensure rapid development in the number of students (entrepreneurs) in the study area in other to enable people to be aware of the benefits to be derived from joining entrepreneur education or training.

1.7     LIMITATION OF THE STUDY

The limiting factors of this write-up from my own point of view will be as follows:

1. Lack of adequate information from some textbooks, magazines, and paper presentation literature in forming booklets concerning unemployment rate.
2. Inadequate information constructed literature review.

1.8     SCOPE OF THE STUDY

The range of this research will focus on the topic under review, which is the impact of entrepreneurship education on unemployment rate of graduate using Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa as a case study.

1.9     DEFINITION OF TERMS

Development: A transformation of a society, a movement from traditional relations, traditional way of thinking, traditional method of production to more modern ways.

Unemployed: is a term referring to individuals who are employable and seeking a job but are unable to find a job. Furthermore, it is those people in the workforce or pool of people who are available for work that does not have an appropriate job.

Graduate: a person who has successfully completed a course of study or training, especially a person who has been awarded an undergraduate or first academic degree.

Education: This is a process generally aimed at preparing individuals to face the challenges of life.

Entrepreneur: This is an individual who has the ability to identify opportunity where others see nothing and also being able to mobilize the necessary resources to translate such idea in to a viable business.

Entrepreneurship: This is the dynamic process of creating incremental wealth. The wealth is created by individual who assume the major risk in terms of equity, time and or career commitment or provide value for some products or services.

Enterprise: Any identified idea that is translated in to planned and satisfactorily implemented activity.
