ABSTRACT

This project work will focus on the need for such a scheme in the FCT, the absence of a standard lees advantage home in FCT Abuja, undermine the state as a whole with regard to children’s welfarism. After a careful analysis of the circumstances militating the existence of motherless babies’ home in the FCT. An architectural solution was proffered through this project work. The project work is carried out and a detailed report written on the finding and solution on ground, an architectural solution proposed will revere as a remedy to the researched problem. The entire project report has been broken into five (5).(1) chapter deals with serving introduction on the background of less advantage home activities, the chapter (2) deals with the review of literature relevant to less advantage home development in the world in particular Nigeria context Chapter (3) three dearly examines the relevant case studies on the subject matter both locally and international standard specifying locations and general appraisal Chapter four (4) dwells on the geographical and historical area of the project data collection from a general stand point and an assessment of the project site. The final chapter (5) explicates the proposal project design concept, constructional technique, building material used, maintenance and its building services.

CHAPTER ONE

1.1     BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Less privilege children care center means a home or centre where orphans and destitute children live as a result of poverty, prostitution, religion belief, untimely death, ignorance among children and negligence in children right laws. While a day care centre, on the other hand is a place where babies or aged people are looked upon usually in the day time.

In advanced countries, it is a place that is adequately for the society for the role it plays. While motherless babies home is a place where children without family or guardian lives in Abuja the federal capital of Nigeria which lies between latitude 8⁰25 and 9⁰20

North of the equator and latitude 6⁰48 and 7⁰39, east of the Greenwich meridian and it’s found in the central part of Nigeria map. The fct which was moved from Lagos has about 8100 square kilometer and its easily accessible to all part of the country, Nigeria due to its central location.

Abuja being the new capital city the federal government is responsible for the plan design, construction and administration of the territory. The ownership and control of all land in the fct is controlled b y the government according to decree no.6 enacted. 

1.2     MOTIVATION

With a prompt increase in the population of abandon children in fct, Abuja as a result of rapid growth in the number of people residing in the fct which may lead to early marriage , prostitution, slum, destitute child (street children). Criminal, congestion as a result of struggling to survive.

In view of this children uncared for bring ill societal image if they manage to service in the street and they are labeled societal nuisance and to remedy this act a home is provided for them so that they can better there future because they are leaders of tomorrow.

1.3     AIM AND OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

The aim and objective of this study is to provide the basic needs. For children and to better there life style and act like there biological parent.

AIM OF THE STUDY

This project is aimed art providing a conducive home for less privilege children.

        OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY

1. To construct a standard modern for less privilege children care centre that will tally with its function.
2. To provide an adequate circulation spaces in the design.
3. To provide sufficient facilities that will save its function.
4. To provide easy accessibility to the centre.
5. To ensure adequate ventilation within the environment.

The home is meant for 400 children from birth to 17 years of age.

1.5     IMPORTANCE OF THE STUDY

• It will provide the first property designed children friendly edifice purposely designed.
• It will serve as a basic reference to other major and minor (public and private) motherless babies home.
• It will assist in removing street children from the public, alleviating their plight creating the need they apparently do not have in their homes.

1.6     RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

The method of research used for this thesis include direct interview with officers of the state welfare department, physical inspection of the existing similar scheme as a case study(s) literature review from publication, journal, consultation of map, published and unpublished works of the past researcher.

1.7     DEFINITION OF TERMS

Less: A smaller amount of something.

Privilege: having specials right or advantage that most people do not have.

Children: A young human who is not yet adult.

Care: the process of caring for something.

Centre: A place or an area where a lot of children live.

Destitute: these are people without a home, food money and profession in the society.
