ABSTRACT

The title of this project is design and construction of 5v dual regulated power supply for laboratory use. This project is begin designed and constructed to overcome the draw backs being encountered by most of the laboratory  d.c. electronics equipment from unregulated d.c. power supply, which their d.c. output voltages changes with variation in load or input voltages. This type of d.c. supply is termed regulated d.c. power supply and can be obtained by voltages regulation circuit. This regulation circuit is an electronic control circuit which is capable of providing a nearly constant d.c. output voltages even when there are variation in load or input voltage. This project consists of four basic unit, the transformer unit, ratification unit, altering unit and regulator unit. The units so mentioned have been received and designed to meet up with the desire objective of the project. This dual rail power supply circuit is a fixed voltage type and are recommended essentially for all communications, instrumentation, computers and any other electronic system or equipment, provided  that the voltage of the equipment it is going to supply is within the rated output value.  

CHAPTER ONE

1.1       INTRODUCTION

Nowadays accurate personal identification is becoming more and more important. Usual means (smart cards, passwords…) have shown their limits (falsification, loss…). Biometrics (i.e. analysis of personal biological characteristics) can bring a satisfying answer to those latter problems. Currently fingerprint recognition is the most widely used technique for personal identification. Fingerprints are made up of locally parallel ridges with singular points (minutiae), and they constitute a unique permanent universal pattern. The use of ink and paper to get an image from a finger was used for a long time, but technological advances have enabled to automate the acquisition stage by means of solid-state sensors. These sensors exploit different techniques to acquire the image (pressure, electrical field, temperature…) and require a static (matrix sensor) or mobile finger position (sweeping mode sensor).

Our project is developed to provide security for a Organization. In this project the fingerprint sensor sense the thumb impression of the corresponding person and that image will be compared with registered image, if the both images are unique, then the finger print device activates particular task like access control to a secured area, identification of the employee etc.  The project contains 2 modes, the first one is master mode and the second is user mode. The master mode is used to register the new user and gives the mode of authorization. The master mode has the ability to create and delete the users. The user mode is an ordinary mode used for the authentication of the employees. In user mode of authorization, creation and deletion of a user cannot be performed.

The Master mode operations are done directly through interfacing the FM10 (Finger Print Module) to the COM PORT of the computer. The application program is developed using java API in Swings. The Java communication API is used for communicating with the Fingerprint device. The employee details along with biometric information database are stored in the flash memory of the Fingerprint module. The Microcontroller 89S52 is programmed to operate under user mode. Microcontroller is programmed using C51 cross compiler. Fingerprint image is scanned by the fingerprint device. If the scanned image matches with the registered image then Microcontroller sends the authorized persons Id to the computer when the person enters and leaves the organization. By this daily attendance of employees, many employee records are maintained. The employee records are stored in

1.2       OBJECTIVES OF STUDY

The aim and objectives of this project work is to design and constructs a dual power supply for use in industries, homes, etc or any property.

1.3       PROBLEM STATEMENT

This project provide a comprehensive of a finger print security alert system with LCD display with a central alert unit and the technique employed in the design,

Construction and analysis of the various circuit components. The technology employed in constructions of a security system such as this shows how each component relatively function with each other and the combined operations of sub-circuits placed at each exit response to any intrusion.

1.4       SIGNIFICANCE OF STUDY          

The study is important in numerous aspect as it may find its application in almost all electronics appliances. It can be applied in homes, hospitals, factories or industries etc to give positive and negative feedback.       

1.5       SCOPE OF STUDY

Short comings may be experience due to inherent weakness in designs considering the time frame which the project was carried out.

2.0       INTRODUCTION

A power supply is an electronic device that supplies electric energy to an electrical load. The primary function of a power supply is to convert one form of electrical energy to another and, as a result, power supplies are sometimes referred to as electric power converters. Some power supplies are discrete, stand-alone devices, whereas others are built into larger devices along with their loads. Examples of the latter include power supplies found in desktop computers and consumer electronics devices.

Every power supply must obtain the energy it supplies to its load, as well as any energy it consumes while performing that task, from an energy source. Depending on its design, a power supply may obtain energy from various types of energy sources, including electrical energy transmission systems, energy storage devices such as a batteries and fuel cells, electromechanical systems such as generators and alternators, solar power converters, or another power supply.
